A long time ago, I used to have my words published on websites. Remember those?
That should give you an idea of how long it’s been. In the interim, the internet has changed, and so have I. For a number of years, I retreated gradually from the internet, leaving less and less of myself there, and focusing more on nourishing my own interior world.
But these days, I’m not sure there’s a meaningful distinction between those two spaces anymore. And I have thoughts I’d like to share. With you, if you’re interested in them. I still think words are the best way to do that, even with all the other methods we have at our disposal now.
I’ll be reacting, here, to the little bits of the world that lodge themselves in my mind or my heart, and about which I’d like to express something. That’s likely to include everything from manga I’ve read recently to weirdos I’ve encountered on the street (like the guy today walking in the middle of the road, who shouted and gesticulated menacingly, but only at motorcycles, appearing to try and push them away with his outstretched palms).
I gravitate toward strong storytelling, in whatever form I can find it. My job here is to share some of the wonder in the stories I encounter. Occasionally I’ll share some fiction that I’ve written as well. Back when I was publishing regularly, I lived in Toronto, where I had pretty much always been. For the past twelve years, I’ve lived in various parts of Japan. In addition to stories, I love seeing how pieces of things fit together, whether it’s new societal niches, MCs navigating beats in 90s New York hip-hop, NBA lineups, or gameplay mechanics in JRPGs. That’s me.
The world’s becoming more interconnected, but I think we, as individuals, might be connecting with each other less. If we can’t, or choose not to, spend time with each other in person, then we can at least send some of our words out into the world for whoever might find them.
If you choose to read some of mine, I’d be honoured.
Let’s just all try and have a good time. And remember:
I wonder if the guy who was mad at motorcycles was a dog in a past-life.
Sound advice about crows. I have been the victim several times of swoop-by larceny (food, energy jelly pouches) on the golf course. Keep posting, Blue Jay.
