Was wondering if you had something new recently and was excited to see you had a post in June that I missed. Will be listening to Steely Dan this weekend — not very familiar with them but your piece has me curious. Hope all is well Jayson!
Thanks for checking in on me, Taegan. I've been following your Moving series as well. It's a busy time in my life, but it's all positive stuff. Looking forward to August when I'll have time to pause and recharge a bit. Good luck with the Dan, dude! Make sure you listen to Black Cow. That's been my go-to start-the-day jam lately.
“Steely Dan is so sublimely on their own exquisitely and ironically crafted pedestal, they just sometimes assign backup vocals to god darn Michael McDonald, the foremost Doobie Brother. That may be the greatest flex in popular music history.”
I would've hit the "love" button had there been one. Great article. Glad to see you're back with the seat of the pants applied to the seat of the chair. But the pea on my plate is your comment about Michael McD and the Doobies. He was a nice addition to an already excellent band, I'll certainly admit. But he wasn't Joe Carter. Your Steely Dan is my Doobies, except I didn't need a Kyoto taxi driver to remind me of (introduce me to?) what for me might be the best band of all time. Then again, I am from California.
Thank you. And you're right, of course. Michael McD may be the foremost Doobie Bro in my mind, but I always forget that he wasn't a founding member. We need to sit down and have our Doobie Brothers discussion someday. Ideally onboard a yacht.
Dude, I've had that disease for a very long time. The only possible cure is to keep buying and playing their stuff.
That is a fate I am ready to consign myself to.

It’s always possible to get a little more mellow! Welcome.
Thank you! Good to be aboard.

Welcome to the club!
Thanks! Seems like a fun one to be a part of.
